These activities have been developed, not to trivialise Remembrance Day, but to increase understanding and awareness by engaging pupils with the realities of war.
In World War 1 32 nations fought for 4 years, 3 months and 2 weeks from 28th July 1914 – 11th November 1918. People fought for what they believed to be right. More than 16 million of them died.
This activity can be used as a stand-alone ‘Remembrance’ activity, or as part of a group of activities. Each candle represents different groups of people who are involved or affected by war.
This activity was adapted from Jane Whittington, Schools Officer (Christian Distinctiveness) for the Diocese of Guildford.
