These activities have been developed, not to trivialise Remembrance Day, but to increase understanding and awareness by engaging pupils with the realities of war.
During World War 1 families found themselves separated. Men were sent to fight in other countries, while women worked long hours and their children were evacuated away from the cities. To overcome the loneliness and stay hopeful, many soldiers kept photos of their families in their pockets, along with a small Bible.
This activity was adapted from Jane Whittington, Schools Officer (Christian Distinctiveness) for the Diocese of Guildford.
