“A poem is a device that helps people breathe.” “A poem is a painting in words.” Sometimes poetry helps us to express things that ‘everyday language’ can’t.
This activity invites pupils to create a simple poem prayer, using fridge magnets.
These sets of magnetic poetry usually come in tin boxes, and so pupils can use the lid of the box to arrange the words. This makes the activity private, although you can also encourage pupils to take a photo of their poem to keep as a record, if they want to.
If you or the pupils want to use Instagram to share some of the prayer-poetry, please include @prayer_spaces_in_schools or #prayerspaces to the post. Alternatively, if you have a large magnetic board, you could allow the pupils to arrange their poems where others can read them.
If you are using the adult sets of poetry, it is a good idea to check through the box and remove any words which might be suggestive or inappropriate.
