‘House Building’ is part of the Justice Series, developed in partnership with Christian Aid.
This activity is about what it means to have, and to lose, a home. Every year, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and wars in many countries destroy many thousands of people’s homes.
Christian Aid partners with organisations around the world to rebuild homes and to help people who have been affected by natural disasters to rebuild their lives. They give physical resources, and they train and equip people with leadership and organisational skills.
This activity invites pupils to read the case studies and think about how it might feel to lose their home in a natural disaster. The pupils can draw or write hopes or prayers onto ‘bricks’ and Blu-tac them to make a wall and/or build a small Lego house as they reflect.
Follow-up lesson plans based around this theme are available on the Christian Aid website.
